Resumo:Intestinal parasitic infections are considered endemic and neglected diseases, representing a serious public health problem, particularly affecting school-aged children. Socioeconomic, environmental, and cultural factors are directly associated with the occurrence of enteroparasites, especially in developing countries like Brazil and regions with limited sanitation conditions, such as the Northeast region. The objective of this study was to analyze the profile of intestinal parasites in school-aged children in the Northeast region of Brazil, based on literature data, and highlight the risk factors that may be associated with the development of intestinal parasitic infections in this group. This research was conducted using the databases Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Virtual Health Library (BVS), PubMed, and Google Scholar, utilizing the keywords "enteroparasites," "children," "Brazil," "profile," and "intestinal parasites" in Portuguese and their respective translations in English. The search resulted in a total of 676 articles, of which 12 were considered eligible after applying the adopted criteria. The analysis of the articles mostly identified Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, and Giardia lamblia as the most prevalent parasites among school-aged children, and it encompassed risk factors associated with this occurrence, such as environmental, socioeconomic, and sanitary aspects. Further studies are important to generate knowledge on the subject, guiding measures that provide better living conditions and reduce the impacts caused by the occurrence of enteroparasites.
