Resumo:Introduction: Cupping therapy is an ancient therapeutic technique used for over 4 thousand years by the Chinese in search of healing and pain relief. The technique consists in applying glass, plastic or silicone cups on the skin, creating a vacuum by suction. Although it is widely used and reported to be effective, it is important to consider the need for scientific evidence to support its application. Objective: To review in the Brazilian literature the studies on the use of cupping therapy as a therapeutic resource, carried out in the country. Methods: The present study is an integrative literature review, carried out in the databases LILACS, SciELO, BVS and PUBMED, through the use of the descriptor "cupping therapy". Results: The search in the databases identified 73 articles, but after applying the selection criteria 71 articles were excluded, in this way, 2 articles composed the sample for meeting the inclusion criteria. Discussion: The studies included brought positive results in the application of suction cup to decrease neck pain and to gain muscle flexibility and decrease pain threshold to pressure in athletes. Conclusion: Cupping therapy can provide a decrease in neck pain and improvement in muscle flexibility, however the groups studied tend to be very heterogeneous, with a low level of evidence, therefore, it is necessary to carry out clinical trials in Brazil that evaluate specific conditions in the population studied, with a good methodological design, minimizing the risk of bias and presenting a significant sample.
