Resumo:The relationship of the children with the physical space is of great relevance to their development once it contributes to their perception of the space, development of the senses, evolution of the movements, socialization, to the creation of a citizenship mentality and sense of belonging. The public space in that sense becomes a source of incentive and knowledge, contributing to the formation of citizenship. This work entitled “Praça terra das crianças: proposta de um espaço público pensado para crianças na cidade de Currais Novos, RN” has the main goal of considering the needs and specificities of the children when elaborating projects involving public spaces, as a way of stimulating their appropriation and promoting their development in the motor, cognitive, social, citizen formation and emotional aspects. Also, it has the specific goals of: to understand the concepts that base the relationship between children and public spaces; to know the ways of appropriation of the squares in the city of Currais Novos by the children; to elaborate a pre proposal of a city square in Currais Novos that consider children's appropriation and participation. It is verified that, although the Currais Novos’ squares are a part of the citizens’ daily activities in matters of leisure, culture, public events and more, there haven't been planned attractions to offer conditions for children’s use in matters of recreation. The theoretical references for this work are Oliveira (2004); Friedman; (2012); Bondioli e Sávio (2013); Meyer; Zimmerman (2020), among others and the research methodology is Walkings Interview and the interviews and observations are based on Oliveira (2004). The project has its relevance because it will contribute to the discussion of the importance of thinking the public spaces for the children, understanding their physical, social, emotional and cognitive development, and to the appreciation of these spaces by the new generations, providing the sense of belonging as much as to the public spaces as to the city.
