Resumo:The issue of drug abuse is a complex and multifaceted problem that affects contemporary society. Over the past decades, the consumption and trafficking of psychoactive substances have become a global concern, impacting individuals of all ages, genders, social classes and cultures. Drug abuse has the potential to cause various harms not only to the users themselves but also to those around them and the general population. The impact of this issue is evident in both public health and on the justice and public security system. In Brazil, the lack of data is a noteworthy factor. Besides the data on occurrences consolidated by the Brazilian Public Security Forum (BPSF), there are few numbers that allow for other types of comparisons, reported only by a few states such as Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Ceará, and Rio de Janeiro. Understanding the profile of the drug market, analyzing consumption data, and evaluating the seizure profile of these substances are crucial for developing appropriate public policies and coping strategies. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the profile of seized drugs of abuse in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN) during the period from January to June 2021. This study utilized a documentary, descriptive, retrospective approach with a quantitative analysis of data obtained from reports provided by the Forensic Central Laboratory Division (FCLD) of the Technical-Scientific Institute of Expertise of Rio Grande do Norte (ITEP/RN). The data analysis revealed that the majority of seizures were carried by the civil police and involved a single type of drug. Additionally, there was a predominance of seizures in the capital city. In terms of time distribution, January had the highest number of seizures overall, and Tuesdays were the most common day of the week for seizures, while Sundays had the lowest occurrence. Marijuana was the most frequently seized drug, followed by cocaine. The most common form of marijuana seized was in its plant form, with a total cumulative seizure mass of approximately 1140 kg. When comparing month-to-month, there was an increase in seizures of inhalants and synthetic drugs, particularly in February, as well as an increase in cocaine seizures in May. The main adulterants reported in cocaine seizures were caffeine and local anesthetic drugs such as lidocaine and tetracaine. These findings aim to support a report on the profile of drug seizures in the state of RN.
