Resumo:Access to sanitary sewage services is guaranteed to Brazilian citizens by the Federal Constitution, however, even though it is fundamental, many municipalities suffer from a large deficit of this service. In Montanhas/RN, the population is not served by a collective sewage system, in view of this, this project aims to dimension and graphically represent a system solution for the treatment of sanitary sewage in that city. For this purpose, the urban population of the municipality, the conditions of the area available for implementation, the complexity of system operation, and the efficiency of treatment were analyzed. Stabilization ponds are the most implemented treatment alternative in the countryside of RN that have a collective sewage system, despite this, in the present study, for operational simplicity, we opted for a sewage treatment plant that operated through an anaerobic system. Then, the dimensioned ETE was characterized as a small sewage treatment system, composed of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor followed by a polishing pond, which was dimensioned for a 20-year project horizon, according to the current Technical Standards, in addition, the receiving body was characterized in which the treated effluent will be sent for final disposal. The treatment process in which the effluent will be submitted is simple, it starts with the preliminary treatment (bar screens and grit chamber), to remove coarse solids and sand, and goes on to the secondary treatment (UASB reactor and polishing pond) for the removal of organic matter and pathogenic organisms, and part of the effluent will go through the treatment of the solid phase (drying beds) and will be recirculated to the beginning of the system through a centrate elevator. Finally, the alternative adopted proved to be satisfactory in terms of efficiency in the removal of organic matter, above 69%, as well as excellent removal of thermotolerant coliforms, with results favorable to those established by the environmental legislation of the National Environmental Council.
