description In Brazil, basic sanitation is a right guaranteed by the Federal Constitution and defined by Law n°14.026/2020 where water supply is one of its pillars. In this bias, the present work has the premise of evaluating, in a simplified way, the water quality in the distribution net work in the Ponta Negra Supply System, located in the municipality of Natal/RN. The study used the Basic Sanitation Municipal Plan (PMSB) as a basis, which proposes the use of the Distributed Water Quality Index (IQAD) as a reference to classify the quality of distributed water in the aforementioned Municipality. Faced with the problem related to the contamina tion of wells in Natal/RN, Nitrate levels were also analyzed in the SAA Ponta Negra. The data used for the purpose of evaluating the non-compliant parameters were extracted from the Quality System (CAERN), in this way, the IQAD's for the period 2018 - 2021 can be obtained. The results for the analyzed points alternated between bad/regular. The parame ter that most interfered with the result of the index was analyzed and it was found to be the pH. Considering the amendment to Annex XX of Consolidation Ordinance GM/MS No. 5/2017, through ORDINANCE GM/MS No. 888/2021, the pH no longer has a reference value. With that, it was proposed to remove the pH in the calculation of the IQAD, redistrib uting the weights for the other parameters. Thus, the points studied presented a predomi nantly good/great water quality. The concentration of Nitrate, referring to the same period, showed results predominantly within the limit of 10(mg/L). Thus, we can see that the pro posed IQAD demonstrated that water from Ponta Negra has good quality and that the pH value, having negatively influenced the standard IQAD, is probably due to the fact that groundwater has a slightly acidic pH. In addition, it was found that nitrate, a relevant param eter for the municipality of Natal, has an acceptable limit for this system.

Nesse viés, o presente trabalho tem a premissa de avaliar, de maneira simplificada, a qualidade da água na rede de distribuição no Sistema de Abastecimento de Ponta Negra, localizado no município do Natal/RN. O estudo utilizou como base o Plano Municipal de Saneamento Básico (PMSB), que propõe a utilização do Índice de Qualidade da Água Distribuída (IQAD) como referência para classificar a qualidade de água distribuída do Município em epígrafe. Diante da problemática relativa à contaminação dos poços em Natal/RN, foram analisados também os níveis de Nitrato no SAA Ponta Negra. Os dados utilizados para fins de avaliar os parâmetros em desconformidade foram extraídos do Sistema Quality(CAERN), dessa forma pode-se obter os IQAD’s para o período de 2018 – 2021. Os resultados para os pontos analisados alternaram entre ruim/regular. Analisou-se o parâmetro que mais interferiu no resultado do índice e constatou-se como sendo o pH. Considerando a alteração do Anexo XX da Portaria de Consolidação GM/MS nº 5/2017, através da PORTARIA GM/MS Nº 888/2021, o pH deixou de possuir um valor de referência. Com isso, foi proposto a retirada do pH no cálculo do IQAD, redistribuindo os pesos para os demais parâmetros. Dessa forma, os pontos estudados apresentaram uma qualidade de água predominante boa/ótima. A concentração de Nitrato, referente ao mesmo período, apresentou resultados, predominantemente, dentro do limite de 10(mg/L). Assim, podemos perceber que o IQAD proposto demonstrou que água de Ponta Negra tem uma qualidade boa e, que o valor do pH, por ter influenciado negativamente no IQAD padrão, deve-se provavelmente ao fato das águas subterrâneas possuírem pH, levemente, ácido.
