The purpose of this article is to discuss the importance of the academic training of Ballroom Dancing teachers in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, in the teaching-learning process, as well as to discuss the valuation of university-trained professionals and the search for of continuous qualification learning in courses and workshops; identifying institutions that have Ballroom Dancing and also carrying out an analysis of the training level of professionals working in them and continuing education. The research is based on a qualitative approach, based on bibliographic research and a case study. In the study, we realized that a ballroom dancing professional is not made in university courses, however it is necessary that this professional has a higher education level to “learn” how to deal with the pedagogical practice of dance without necessarily being a teacher who repeats movements. encoded. We realize that continuing education is necessary for this professional to be up to date with their area of knowledge. Este artigo tem-se como objetivo discutir a importância da formação acadêmica dos professores de Dança de Salão na cidade de Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, no processo de ensino-aprendizagem, bem como discorrer sobre a valorização do profissional formado em universidade e a busca do aprendizado contínuo de qualificação em cursos e workshops; identificar instituições que tenham Dança de Salão e ainda fazer uma análise de nível de formação dos profissionais atuantes nas mesmas e a formação continuada. A pesquisa ancora-se na abordagem qualitativa, a partir da pesquisa bibliográfica e de estudo de caso. No estudo percebemos que não se faz um profissional de Dança de Salão nos cursos universitários, no entanto é preciso que este tenha uma formação em nível superior para “aprender” a como lidar com a prática pedagógica da dança sem ser necessariamente um professor repetidor de movimentos codificados.
