description Climate-integrated shopping mall designs are a minority in relation to a universe in which there is a predominance of a post-modern, globalized architectural language, with little or no reference to the place, and often have lower commercial value. However, the growing awareness of sustainability and environmental comfort strategies aimed at both quality of life and fighting the pandemic encourage a new look at the subject. This work presents the conception path and result for an architectural intervention in an underused indoor area, in a shopping mall in Natal, RN, which subverts the conventional conception of shopping spaces , integrating the indoor environment with the climate through design decisions focused on environmental comfort and low environmental impact. The development of the architectural design started from a conceptual and theoretical basis for the elaboration of the design solution through architectural programming, pre-dimensioning, architectural zoning and a project methodology, resulting in the understanding of the problem, intellectual conception, and development of the design idea . The design started from the selection of an area with a potential for intervention, the last floor of the garage, and the concept was based on the metaphor of a large tree, which shelters activities providing shade, permeability to wind and soft light. The adaptive reuse of the shopping mall area took place through the expansion and reorganization of pre-existing uses, as well as the insertion of new uses through the proposal of a mezzanine, a lifting of the roof and an addition of green area. The concept design was developed considering thermal, luminous and acoustic performance, and the choices of construction systems valued the use of wood for structure and interior finishing. The final result is a commercial space comparatively more sustainable than usual, with restorative characteristics for its users.

Os projetos de shopping com integração ao clima são minoria em relação ao universo que predomina a linguagem arquitetônica globalizada, pós-moderna, com pouca ou nenhuma referência ao lugar, e frequentemente apresentam menor valor comercial. Entretanto, a crescente conscientização da sustentabilidade e das medidas de conforto ambiental para a qualidade de vida e combate à pandemia incentivam um novo olhar sobre o tema. Esse trabalho apresenta o percurso de concepção e resultado para uma intervenção arquitetônica de uma área interna subutilizada em um shopping center em Natal-RN, que subverte a concepção de espaços de compras convencionais, integrando o ambiente interno com o clima por meio de decisões projetuais voltadas para o conforto ambiental e o baixo impacto ambiental.O desenvolvimento do projeto partiu do embasamento teórico conceitual para a elaboração da solução projetual através da metodologia de projeto e da programação arquitetônica, pré-dimensionamento e zoneamento, resultando no conhecimento do problema, concepção intelectual, desenvolvimento da proposta. A proposta partiu da seleção da área com potencial de intervenção, o último pavimento de garagem, e o conceito se baseou na metáfora de uma grande árvore, que abriga as atividades proporcionando sombra, permeabilidade ao vento e luz suave.Arequalificação da área do shopping se deu pela ampliação e reorganização de usos pré-existentes, bem como a inserção de novos usos através da proposição de mezanino, elevação da cobertura e acréscimo de área verde. O anteprojeto foi desenvolvido considerando o desempenho térmico, luminoso e acústico, e as escolhas dos sistemas construtivos valorizaram o uso de madeira na estrutura e acabamento interno.
