Resumo:Patients with neurological diseases when undergoing surgical procedures may present several complications and progress to negative outcomes, including death. Thus, specialized care in the Intensive Care Unit is necessary. In this context, nurses play a fundamental role in caring for patients with these conditions. However, in order to achieve the best results, it is essential that this assistance is based on protocols and clinical guidelines that standardize, guide and indicate care supported by scientific evidence. The objective of this study was to build and validate a protocol directed to nursing care for patients in the immediate postoperative period of neurosurgery in an Intensive Care Unit. This is a methodological study, with a quantitative approach, developed in a private hospital in the city of Natal/RN. In order to reach the proposed objective, an integrative review was carried out to support the construction of the protocol; and finally, the validation of the instrument with the Delphi Technique through the consensus of judges, where the Content Validity Index with a value equal to or greater than 78% was adopted. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, authenticated by opinion nº 5.617.669 and CAAE nº 59709322.1.0000.5537. Data were analyzed and organized in tables, charts and in a descriptive way. As for the results, the integrative review compiled a contribution of eight scientific articles that supported the construction of the preliminary protocol. This instrument was validated by ten judges, maintaining in its structural form a title of eighteen items that capture necessary information about nursing care for patients in the immediate postoperative period of neurosurgery in an Intensive Care Unit. The instrument was validated in two rounds using the Delphi technique and maintained a CVI of 0.90. Therefore, the protocol can contribute to the acquisition of knowledge about nursing care for neurosurgical patients, communication between nursing professionals, coordination of nursing care and the reduction of risks of harm to patients.
