description The Amazon Jungle is a tropical forest characterized, among other aspects, by high rainfall, high temperatures and great distance from health centers. The Brazilian Army soldiers who work in this locality are exposed to risks inherent to military activity and to risks related to the characteristics of the Jungle. In case of medical emergencies, the seriously ill soldier must be treated with a limited number of resources and there may be difficulties in transporting him to definitive treatment at a referral hospital. The team responsible for emergency care is made up of health personnel, who must be able to handle critically ill patients without immediate backup of a tertiary service. This study describes the implementation of an educational strategy to train a health team to respond to emergencies in the 53rd Batalhão de Infantaria de Selva in 2020 and 2021. This intervention was conceived based on an improvement cycle implemented by the team that identified the opportunity to improve training in emergencies. The educational strategy comprised a theoretical-practical course on emergency care and a cardiopulmonary resuscitation protocol for the service. The course lasted 10 hours/class and was applied to 18 military personnel. Dialogued theoretical classes, simulations of cardiorespiratory resuscitation on a dummy and pre-hospital care simulations took place. The themes were chosen with the participation of the students: cardiopulmonary resuscitation; pre-hospital care; drowning; hypothermia; burns; accidents with venomous animals; rhabdomyolysis; use and maintenance of equipment. The cardiopulmonary resuscitation protocol was designed, reviewed and approved by the group. To measure content apprehension, identical pre-test and post-test were applied. There was interest and adherence of the students and there was an absolute and relative improvement of correct answers between the tests. This is the first description of such a strategy in the military context and in the Amazon. The results of this study can contribute to improving the quality of care, however, in order to measure the impact on the quality of the service, it is necessary that the strategy be expanded and that quality indicators be monitored.

A Selva Amazônica é uma floresta tropical caracterizada, dentre outros aspectos, por altos índices pluviométricos, elevadas temperaturas e grande distância dos centros de saúde. Os militares do Exército Brasileiro que atuam nesta localidade estão expostos a riscos de adoecimento inerentes à atividade militar e aos riscos relacionados às características da Selva. Em caso de emergências médicas, o militar gravemente enfermo deve ser atendido com quantidade limitada de recursos e pode haver dificuldade de transporte até o tratamento definitivo em hospital de referência. A equipe responsável pelo atendimento de emergência é composta por militares da saúde, os quais devem estar aptos a manejar o paciente grave sem retaguarda imediata de um serviço terciário. Este estudo descreve a realização de uma estratégia educacional para capacitar uma equipe de saúde em atendimento a emergências no 53º Batalhão de Infantaria de Selva em 2020 e 2021. Esta intervenção foi idealizada a partir de um ciclo de melhoria implementado pela equipe que identificou a oportunidade de melhoria “capacitação em emergências”. A estratégia educacional compreendeu um curso teóricoprático sobre atendimento em emergência e um protocolo de reanimação cardiopulmonar específico para o serviço. O curso teve duração de 10 horas/aula e foi aplicado a 18 militares. Ocorreram aulas teóricas dialogadas, simulações de atendimento a parada cardiorrespiratória em manequim e simulações de atendimento pré-hospitalar. Os temas foram escolhidos com a participação dos cursistas: reanimação cardiopulmonar; atendimento pré-hospitalar; afogamento; hipotermia; queimaduras; acidentes com animais peçonhentos; rabdomiólise; uso e conservação de equipamentos. O protocolo de reanimação cardiopulmonar específico para o serviço foi elaborado, revisado e aprovado pelo grupo. Para medir a apreensão do conteúdo, foram aplicados pré-teste e pós-teste idênticos. Verificou-se interesse e adesão dos cursistas e houve melhoria absoluta e relativa de acertos entre os testes. Esta é a primeira descrição de uma estratégia desta natureza no contexto militar e na Amazônia.
