Resumo:The World Health Organization (WHO), on January 30, 2020, declared the infection with the new coronavirus a global emergency and then named the disease COVID-19. The pandemic generated concern that triggered the accelerated search to create ways to diagnose, treat and prevent this disease, somehow controlling the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In Caicó/RN, the notification of the first suspected case of coronavirus infection occurred on March 17, 2020. This research aims to characterize the epidemiological profile of hospitalized patients who evolved to cure for COVID-19 in the municipality of Caicó/RN. This is a quantitative and cross-sectional study, in which an instrument was used to collect data from the individual record sheets of cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Hospitalized from patients who were hospitalized at the Hospital Regional do Seridó Telecila Freitas Fontes as a result of COVID-19, from March 7, 2020 to December 27, 2021. Information was collected from the Epidemiological Surveillance Center of the Hospital do Regional and the Influenza Surveillance Information System. It was carried out in the municipality of Caicó/RN, where services are offered at all levels of complexity, having this hospital as a reference center in the Seridó region. The sample consisted of 185 patients. Data were analyzed using a specific statistical program, in which frequencies, distribution center measurements and their variability were considered for descriptive analysis. The results obtained were that most patients were male (65.9%), white (60.5%), with a mean age of 53 years, residing in the north and central zone of the municipality, with low education, only 4.9% had higher education. The main signs and symptoms were saturation < 95%, cough, dyspnea, fever, respiratory distress and fatigue. It was found that 73.62% of the patients did not take any type of vaccine, and among those who were vaccinated (26.38%), the Oxford vaccine was the most used (7.0%). Among the tests used in the hospital, Chest Tomography and RT-PCR were the most requested. From these results, it is possible to gather data on how the pandemic reflects locally and, thus, enable contributions in the planning of public policies, decisions and strategies that implement disease prevention and control measures in the municipality.
