With the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Oral Health Teams have been developing a new role since March 2020, following the guidelines of the National Health Surveillance Agency, the Federal Council of Dentistry, the Ministry of Health, in addition to municipal recommendations . Dental procedures were restricted to urgent and emergency care only, in addition to prioritizing the use of manual devices, avoiding aerosols. Objective: to analyze the effects of COVID-19 on the dental service in the city of Caicó/RN. Methodology: This is an observational, descriptive and analytical study with a cross-sectional design. An analysis of secondary data in the public domain was carried out. Data were collected from the Health Information System for Primary Care regarding emergency dental care, first scheduled dental appointments and completed treatments for the years 2019 (pre-pandemic period), 2020 (first year of the COVID-19 pandemic) and 2021 (Second year of the pandemic and period of the first doses of vaccines). Results: there is a significant reduction in the average of the variables first dental appointments and treatments completed between the years 2019 and 2020, however it was possible to observe a significant increase in the average between the years 2020 and 2021. There was also a significant increase in the median number of emergency room visits between 2019 and 2020. Conclusion: it was shown that COVID19 had negative effects on public oral health services in the municipality of Caicó/RN. It is suggested, however, that further studies and clinical trials be carried out on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on dental care. |

Com a pandemia do novo coronavírus (COVID-19), as Equipes de Saúde Bucal estão desenvolvendo um novo papel desde março de 2020, seguindo as orientações da Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária, Conselho Federal de Odontologia, Ministério da Saúde, além de recomendações municipais. Restringiram-se os procedimentos odontológicos apenas para atendimentos de urgências e emergências, além de priorizar o uso de dispositivos manuais, evitando os aerossóis. Objetivo: analisar osefeitos do COVID-19 no serviço odontológico do município de Caicó/RN. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo observacional, descritivo e analítico, de delineamento transversal. Realizou-se uma análise de dados secundários de domínio público. Foram coletados do Sistema de Informação em Saúde para a Atenção Básica dados relativos aos atendimentos de urgência odontológica, primeiras consultas odontológicas programadas e tratamentos concluídos dos anos de 2019 (período pré-pandemia), 2020 (Primeiro ano da pandemia de COVID-19) e 2021 (Segundo ano da pandemia e período das primeiras doses das vacinas). Resultados: observa-se uma redução significativa na média das variáveis primeiras consultas odontológicas e tratamentos concluídos entre os anos de 2019 e 2020, entretanto foi possível observar um aumento significativo na média entre os anos de 2020 e 2021. Constatou-se também um aumento significativo na mediana de atendimentos de urgência entre os anos de 2019 e 2020. Conclusão: evidenciou-se que o COVID-19 provocou efeitos negativos nos serviços públicos de saúde bucal no município de Caicó/RN.
