Resumo:Introduction: Running induces adaptive responses that alter strength and power. As a resource for muscle recovery, sliding cupping therapy is applied in clinical practice under the theories that its application influences microcirculation and the nervous system, however, studies investigating its effects on athletes are scarce. To investigate the effects of cupping therapy on pain, perception of fatigue and muscle performance after a 10km run. Hypothesis: Cupping will produce significant changes when compared to the sham group. Methodology: Blind randomized clinical trial, in which 33 volunteers of both sexes were allocated into two groups: cupping and sham. The participants were evaluated before the race, and immediately, 24h and 48h after the intervention, through the perception of pain and fatigue and recovery scales, isokinetic dynamometry and algometry. Data normality was assessed using the Shapiro Wilk and Levene test. To determine the differences between the two groups, the mixed model ANOVA was used. Bonferroni's post-hoc test was applied to identify differences when an F-value was found. Statistical significance was set at 5% and a 95% confidence interval. Results: No significant differences were observed for pain and fatigue perception and recovery variables. In peak torque normalized by body weight and power, positive results were observed in favor of the sham group. CONCLUSION: The application of sliding cupping therapy showed results like sham cupping to improve pain, fatigue and muscle performance after a 10km run.
