Resumo:The use of good labor and birth practices has been an alternative for better care for the binomial (mother and newborn), hence the importance of monitoring and analyzing the use of good labor and birth practices. This study can be defined as quantitative, retrospective and documentary, with a convenience sample. Being carried out at the Obstetric Center and Obstetric Clinic, of the Mariano Coelho Regional Hospital (HRMC) located in the municipality of Currais Novos, Seridó region, interior of Rio Grande do Norte, from January 2020 to December 2021, respecting the precepts issued by Resolution 466/2012 of the National Research Ethics Committee (CONEP). A total of 1442 records of pregnant women at normal risk attended at the Obstetric Center were included, of which 28.4% had a vaginal delivery, and 71.6% underwent a cesarean section. When assessing the association between the mode of delivery and good delivery and birth practices, it was found that women who had a vaginal delivery were 3.95 times more likely to have skin-to-skin contact with their children (95% CI =2.21-7, 08). Just as they were 13.2 more likely to have used non-pharmacological methods during labor ((95% CI =8.21-21.3), 1.6 more chances of their children having timely/late clamping (95% CI =1.24-2.21) and 1.7 more likely to have a companion present (95%CI=1.15-2.73) than women who underwent a cesarean section. and encouraging the adoption of good practices in labor and birth care, aiming to improve the indicators of good practices to offer better assistance to the binomial, since the unit needs to improve some parameters of care in labor and birth, such as the rate of vaginal delivery .
