Resumo:According to the 2022 World Drug Report prepared by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), it is estimated that in 2020, approximately 284 million people used psychoactive drugs at least once in the previous year. Data from the UNODC Drug Monitoring Platform reveal that in 2020, approximately 34 thousand tons of drugs were seized worldwide, while in Brazil, the amount is around 871 tons. The drug market has a wide variety of substances of abuse available, but synthetic drugs, used mainly in the context of parties, have been gaining prominence, showing an accelerated growth rate. In recent years, the illicit drug market has been compromised due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with changes being observed in the pattern of drug use. As a result, the profile of seizures of illicit drugs around the world has also been impacted. Thus, the present work aimed to verify whether the COVID-19 pandemic promoted a change in the pattern of seizures of synthetic drugs in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. This is a retrospective study, designed to carry out comparative analyzes of the period before, simultaneously, and after the lockdown context during the COVID-19 pandemic. From the data collection at the Technical-Scientific Institute of Perícia of Rio Grande do Norte (ITEP/RN), it was possible to understand the pattern of seizures of synthetic drugs in the RN, as well as to verify whether there was a change in the number of drugs seized as a result of of the pandemic. Through the analysis carried out, there was a predominance of apprehensions in the capital, with a prevalence of male indictees; the most recurrent form of presentation was the pill, and the most seized drug was 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA); an increase in the number of seizures was noted during the years 2020 and 2021, surpassing that of 2019. Thus, we observed that the profile of seizures of synthetic drugs in the RN was influenced by the pandemic scenario, with a significant increase in the number of seizures during the peak of the pandemic, when compared to the year 2019.
