Resumo:The experience of monitoring as an institutional action at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) dates back to the 1970s and, apparently, there is a small participation of the Department of Collective Health (DSC) in the Program, despite the fact that there is a unanimity among scholars on the subject of monitoring in relation to the benefits it provides. The objective of this research is to distinguish how monitoring is presented in the DSC, in the monitoring scenario at UFRN. This is an exploratory study, which takes the form of bibliographic research and documental research in the direct study of scientific sources. The results show that monitoring in the CSD and in the Public Health Course has a small participation in the Monitoring Program/UFRN, in which the Health Sciences Center of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Trairi stands out with the largest number of projects awarded in the period from 2011 to 2016. The participation of the DSC in the Program starts in 2014 and increases in the period of remote teaching (2020/2021), in the pandemic context. The final reports prepared by the students and by the coordination of the executed projects mention the satisfaction with the accomplishment of the projects and point to some improvements. Some elements, from the author's experience as a monitor and from the research in the database, point to the interest on the part of professors and students in participating in the Program and, to the opportunity for broad discussion at UFRN aiming at the revitalization of the Monitoring Program.
