Resumo:In the Brazilian context, prison spaces are involved in various problems, such as overcrowding, infrastructure problems and disrespect for the physical and mental integrity of the inmate, a situation that makes the process of resocialization of prisoners difficult. Under this analysis, it was decided to work with the female incarcerated population, considering the need to think about well-designed prison spaces, which value the well-being of the inmates and meet the specific demands of incarcerated women. In this way, the present research aims to develop a preliminary study of a humanized female prison, with a view to the contribution of the space to the resocialization of women prisoners. To this end, a bibliographical research was carried out regarding the history and characteristics of female prison spaces, as well as the spatial humanization and resocialization of inmates. The theoretical survey, together with the reference studies, supported the development of the project, which was based on the methodology of Laert Neves (1989). In view of this, the product of this work consists of a preliminary study of a female prison space for the metropolitan region of Natal/RN, which presents as design guidelines the humanization of spaces and the promotion of a better quality of life for those in custody.
