In this approach, it is verified that the occurrence of periods of El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is associated with distinct rainfall regimes and modifications in the circulation pattern of the trade winds, thus being associated with changes in the energy balance and morphodynamics of coastal environments, consequently. The Ponta Negra beach, in Natal-RN, holds great attention as a tourist spot, given its promotion to a national and international tourism scenario. However, it also presents itself by the inherent fragility of its morphodynamics and structure and the association to meteorological events of precipitation, with emphasis on the advance of the sea and destruction of the promenade of the beach. Thus, the general objective of this study is to analyze the occurrence of episodes of coastal erosion on the beach of Ponta Negra (Natal-RN) and the possible relationship between the action of the ENOS phenomenon in the behavior of precipitation between the years 1986 and 2016. It is verified, through the application of quali-quantitative methodology of the Oceanic Niño and Rainfall Anomaly Indices, that the intensity of ENOS had no influence on the context of precipitation and the frequency of erosive events. Only the years 2000, 2008 and 2011 showed a positive relation between the occurrence of La Niña and precipitation regimes above the historical average, corresponding to 10% of the data sample. In articulation to the analysis of erosive events, only the years 2008 and 2011 presented the occurrence of the negative phase of the Sea Surface Temperature Anomaly (SSTA) (Weak La Niña period), precipitation above the historical average.

Os ambientes praiais se constituem de unidades da paisagem que bem entrelaçam as dinâmicas oceano-climáticas de nível planetário e regional, bem como os potenciais de energia propiciados pelos processos locais de ondas, maritimidade, umidade, ventos e precipitação. Nesta abordagem, verificam-se que a ocorrência de períodos de El Niño de Oscilação Sul (ENOS) está associada a regimes pluviométricos distintos e modificações no padrão de circulação dos ventos alísios, logo, estando associados a alterações no balanço de energia e morfodinâmica de ambientes costeiros, consequentemente. A praia de Ponta Negra, em Natal-RN, detém grande atenção como ponto turístico, dada a promoção a um cenário de turismo nacional e internacional. Contudo, a mesma também se apresenta pela fragilidade inerente à morfodinâmica e estrutura e a associação aos eventos meteorológicos de precipitação, com destaque para o avanço do mar e destruição do calçadão da orla da referida praia. Desta forma, o objetivo geral deste estudo é analisar a ocorrência de episódios de erosão costeira na praia de Ponta Negra (Natal-RN) e a possível relação entre a atuação do fenômeno ENOS no comportamento das precipitações entre os anos de 1986 e 2016. Verifica-se, através da aplicação de metodologia quali-quantitativa dos Índices Oceânico do Niño e de Anomalia de Chuva, que a intensidade do ENOS não apresentou influência no contexto de precipitação e na frequência dos eventos erosivos. Apenas os anos de 2000, 2008 e 2011 apresentaram correlação positiva entre a ocorrência do La Niña e regimes de precipitação acima da média histórica, correspondendo a 10% da amostra de dados.
