Resumo:As a teacher, it is necessary to constantly reflect on one's own classroom practice in order to overcome the challenges that arise on a daily basis. In this context, teachers must seek strategies to help them, and gamification emerges as an attractive tool for those professionals who seek an engaging and innovative classroom. Thus, beyond the corporate and business world, we have noticed that gamification has been growing overwhelmingly in the educational environment and has increasingly filled classrooms. With this in mind, this paper seeks to identify and analyze the effects of gamification on EFL/ESL students’ performance, so that one may, as teachers, improve teaching practice with the use of this innovative methodology, in order to help those learners in the process of learning the English language as they find themselves facing the unknown of an additional language. To this end, a qualitative, bibliographic research was conducted based on four articles that present the application of gamification in the EFL/ESL classroom. As preliminary results of the analysis, positive effects were observed in the performance of EFL/ESL students with the application of gamification, although it has not proved to be effective in the lexical gain of the English language.
