Resumo:During de period of hospitalization in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the newborns are submitted daily to various painful interventions, increasing stress in neonates. For the management of neonatal pain, there are several practices that reduce this discomfort. In view of this, the presente study aimed to the impacts of non-pharmacological methods for neonatal pain relief hospitalization in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The stud setting was the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of a Universitary Hospital, where interviews were conducted with semi-structured questions, the sample consisted of 15 professionals from the nursing staff who work in direct care for newborns. The professionals rely on physiological and behavioral indicators for the perception pf neonatal pain. After that some non-pharmacological methods are used, however the glucose 25% and non-nutritive sucking are presente more frequently.. Pain management has short- and long-term impact, contributes to reducing the length of hospitalization of the newborn and reduces the negative effects of pai on the premature brain.
