The deepening of informational disorder and misinformation in contemporary Brazilian society brings to light the need for professional librarians to be increasingly aware of the complexities of these phenomena and better prepared to combat them. The development of critical competence in information is one of the ways to create critical awareness and citizen resistance to the mechanisms and power relations that contribute to distorting reality. Understanding the role of the librarian in this context is key for students who graduate as librarians. In this sense, this study aims to analyze the knowledge and perceptions of students of the Library Science course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte about misinformation and librarianship. The research is exploratory and quali-quantitative in nature. An online questionnaire distributed through the Google forms platform is used as an instrument for data collection. 70 students enrolled in the course in the semester of 2022.2 participated in the survey. The analyzed variables were informational behavior, knowledge about concepts related to disinformation, critical competence in information and their perceptions about the skills and areas of action of the librarian to face disinformation. the social networks WhatsApp, Instagram and Youtube were indicated as the most used by them to share information, however, the vast majority claim not to use these sources to keep up to date on health, economics and science topics, prioritizing others such as periodicals, newspapers and books. Regarding the dimensions of the concept of disinformation and critical competence in information, it was found that the most known terms were Disinformation and Fake News, while the terms less known by students were Infodemia and Fake science. The knowledge of the students also points out that a person has critical competence in information when he not only masters technical skills, but also presents a critical and ethical attitude towards information. Despite the relative knowledge about the concepts associated with disinformation and critical competence, the results indicate that it is still necessary to deepen the knowledge about them, including practical skills to identify the different typologies of disinformation and the verification of sources. Regarding perceptions about librarian skills and areas of activity, the skills selected by most students are: verifying the authenticity of sources, photos, videos and newspaper headlines and skills in assessing the reliability and quality of information sources. Regarding the areas of activity of the librarian, the areas of selection and evaluation of information sources and the training courses of critical competence in information stood out. It is concluded that it is very important for information professionals to have an active and proactive role in the fight against disinformation and that training at the undergraduate level can include various teaching and extension actions, implementation of educommunicative activities in the curriculum and compulsory subjects , which aim to address issues of disinformation and critical competence in information. |

O aprofundamento da desordem informacional e da desinformação na sociedade brasileira contemporânea traz à tona a necessidade dos profissionais bibliotecários estejam cada vez mais cientes das complexidades destes fenômenos e melhor preparados para combatê-los. O desenvolvimento da competência crítica em informação constitui uma das vias para criar consciência crítica e resistência cidadã ante os mecanismos e relações de poder que contribuem a distorcer a realidade. Compreender o papel do bibliotecário neste contexto é chave para os discentes que se formam como bibliotecárias e bibliotecários. Nesse sentido, este estudo tem como objetivo analisar os conhecimentos e as percepções dos discentes do curso de Biblioteconomia da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte sobre desinformação e atuação bibliotecária. A pesquisa é exploratória e de natureza quali-quantitativa. Utiliza como instrumento para coleta de dados um questionário on-line distribuído através da plataforma Google forms. Participaram da pesquisa 70 alunos matriculados no curso no semestre de 2022.2. As variáveis analisadas foram comportamento informacional, conhecimentos sobre os conceitos relacionados com a desinformação, competência crítica em informação e suas percepções sobre as habilidades e áreas de atuação da pessoa bibliotecária para enfrentar a desinformação. as redes sociais WhatsApp, Instagram e Youtube foram indicadas como as mais usadas por eles para compartilhar informação, contudo, a grande maioria afirma não usar essas fontes para se manter atualizado sobre temas de saúde, economia e ciência, priorizando outras como periódicos, jornais e livros. Sobre as dimensões do conceito de desinformação e competência crítica em informação, constatou-se que os termos mais conhecidos foram Desinformação e Fake News, enquanto os termos menos conhecidos pelos discentes foram Infodemia e Fake science. Os conhecimentos dos discentes ainda apontam que uma pessoa tem competência crítica em informação quando não somente domina habilidades técnicas, mas também apresenta uma atitude crítica e ética frente à informação. Apesar do relativo conhecimento sobre os conceitos associados à desinformação e competência crítica, os resultados indicam que ainda é necessário aprofundar no conhecimento sobre eles, inclusive nas habilidades práticas para identificar as diferentes tipologias de desinformação e a verificação de fontes. Sobre percepções sobre habilidades bibliotecárias e áreas de atuação, as habilidades selecionadas pela maioria dos discentes estão: verificação de autenticidade de fontes, fotos, vídeos e manchetes de jornais e habilidades de avaliação da confiabilidade e qualidade de fontes de informação. Em relação às áreas de atuação da pessoa bibliotecária, se destacaram as áreas de seleção e avaliação de fontes de informação e os cursos treinamentos de competência crítica em informação.
