Graphene and its derivatives, such as graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), have been a subject of increasing relevance in the scientific community and industry, due to their different chemical, structural, electrical and mechanical properties. Among the many applications in the oil and gas industry, the following stand out: drilling, shale inhibition, rheology modification, well strengthening and stabilization, leak detection, coatings, hydraulic fracturing, lubricity, emulsion stabilization, desalting and oil cleaning. rivers with oil spills. Such variability of applications corroborates the interest and investment of the oil and gas industry in the production and application of graphene and its derivatives. For it to become a reality in the industry, a viable, scalable and environmentally friendly synthesis route for the material is needed. Thus, this work aims to develop a green route for the synthesis of graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide, using powdered graphite as a precursor, by the modified hydrothermal method, for applications in the oil and natural gas industry. The synthesis was performed by varying the control parameters: time and pressure, with injection of ultrapure argon gas. The resulting materials were characterized to evaluate the influence of pressurized gas injection on the synthesis efficiency. The modifications caused in the morphology, structure and properties were also analyzed. The results demonstrated that it was possible to synthesize rGO via the hydrothermal method from environmentally friendly reagents, at 200 °C for times ranging from 15 minutes to 4 hours. With the increase of the synthesis time, it was verified greater efficiency in the reduction of GO to rGO. For reduction times between 2h and 3h, the effect of increasing pressure by gas injection was positive for the properties and structures of the resulting graphenes, with greater particle packing, greater densification, and decrease in thicknesses between the multilayers. and lower density of defects in the basal plane. |
