Resumo:In view of the scarce resources and devastated by the 2nd World War, the Lean Manufacturing philosophy emerged in Japan, which had as principles to eliminate activities that did not add value to the production process. With the help of quality tools such as 5S, Kanban, Standard Work, Value Stream Map, which are part of the Lean philosophy, it is possible to reduce losses along the process chain and obtain significant process improvements. The main objective of this study is to analyze the presence of activities that generated waste in the drying sector of an industrial laundry in Natal (Rio Grande do Norte). For this, the mapping of the processes was carried out together with the data collection and the categorization of the waste found. The data collection showed that there was a waste of more than 20% of the working time available in the drying sector during the period studied. In addition to verifying the existence of a difference in efficiency between the brands of dryers used and the occurrence of error in the operation of the machinery. According to the production problems found and using the Lean methodology, the following action plans were proposed to optimize the process: evaluate the reasons for underutilization of the sector, prepare a technical sheet for the operators, create a Kanban and standardize the production process drying. In this way, it is desired to identify the main factor of underutilization of dryers, minimizing human errors and achieving a better assertiveness in the drying time of the pieces.
