Descrição
Resumo:The current treatment of deep cavitated carious lesions consists of selective removal of the outermost layer of carious dentin, the infected dentin, of the back wall of the cavity, keeping the affected dentin, subject to remineralization. It is suggested in the literature that extracts rich in proanthocyanidin (PA) may be effective in remineralizing caries-affected dentin. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate, through an integrative literature review, the effect of proanthocyanidin on the remineralization of demineralized dentin, through the analysis of microhardness and modulus of elasticity. Methodology: Bibliographic searches were carried out in the PubMed and Scielo databases, from 2015 to 2022, using the descriptors “Dentin”, “Dentin caries”, “Proanthocyanidin”, “Remineralization” and “Grape seed extract”. 07 articles were obtained, which addressed about the literature sought. Results: Of these, 03 studies showed favorable results for Proanthocyanidin, while 04 of them showed unfavorable results for the biomodifying agent. Conclusions: In its forms of application, PA did not prove to be effective in favoring the biomodification of candidate dentin to caries, especially when it revealed the results found by other evidence with the same role.
