Objective: To carry out a pharmacoeconomic evaluation together with a literature review to demonstrate the best cost-effectiveness between Sugammadex and Neostigmine.
Methods: A cross-sectional pharmacoeconomic study with female patients at the Januário Cicco Maternity School - Brazil, followed by a literature review for updating and comprehensiveness. In the standardization of maternity drugs, Sugammadex and Neostigmine are used for hospitalized patients who need to undergo this type of procedure. The model was developed from the perspective of the Unified Health System and evaluating the treatment of patients in need of neuromuscular blockade reversal. Results: A high prevalence of use of Rocuronium (76.24%) in operating rooms was demonstrated, with reversal of neuromuscular blockade, with a preponderance of 75.25% in the use of Sugammadex, Neostigmine + Atropine in 22.77% and Sugammadex + Atropine in 2 patients (1.98%). Although Sugammadex was prevalent in the study patients, the hospital had a high prevalence in the use of Neostigmine in general procedures. Associated with pharmacoeconomic costs, a variation from R$32.24 to R$1438.80, depending on the drug and the materials needed for its administration, was identified with the execution and analysis of the calculation of the minimum and maximum costs for the administration of RBNM. Six articles were selected that fit the requirements for inclusion. Conclusion: Thus, the prevalent use of Neostigmine during surgical procedures was demonstrated, due to its low cost to the hospital, even though the drug had more adverse effects than Sugammadex.
