Resumo: | Introduction: Achilles tendinopathy is considered one of the most common
musculoskeletal disorders in athletes. The incidence rate of Achilles tendinopathy
throughout the life in the general population is 6%, but in athletes it rises to 24%. It is a
common cause of incapacity in athletes. The internet search for health -related information
has increased by 5 times in recent years. YouTube™ is the most popular video sharing
platform in the world, and increasingly health decisions are influenced by online platform
research. Considering the impact that Achilles tendinopathy generates and broad access to
information through YouTube ™, it is important to clarify the quality of the information
available on this platform. Objectives: The objectives of the present study were to analyze
whether the information contained in videos available on YouTubeᵀᴹ on Achilles
tendinopathy is in line with the best current scientific evidence and verify that the author's
profession, upload date and the source of information interfere in the results. Methods:
Cross -sectional observational study that included a sample of YouTubeᵀᴹ video containing
information about Achilles tendinopathy, using the “Achilles Tendinopathy” and “Achilles
Tendinitis” search terms. The videos were independently evaluated by two researchers,
regarding the consonance with the guidelines and their specific characteristics. The data were
evaluated by the chi-square test and absolute and relative frequency. Results: The study was
conducted with 177 videos. One hundred and twenty-five videos (70.61%) were not fully
consistent with current scientific evidence. Among the professionals who achieved total or
partial convergence with current guidelines, physiotherapists were the most frequent, with
82% of total confluence and 50% of partial (p = 0.001). The period of greatest publication
of videos on the platform was from 2020 to 2022and 159 (89.9%) of the videos did not
inform the source of information. Conclusion: The content available in YouTubeᵀᴹ videos
on Achilles tendinopathy is mostly partially accurate and lacks clarity. Videos made by
physiotherapists and between 2020 and 2022 tend to be clearer and more accurate compared
to those produced by other professionals. |
