Resumo: | In recent decades, traffic patterns, materials technology, testing and survey parameters,
and data have changed significantly, necessitating revision, improvement, and evolution
of pavement design methods. More sophisticated design methods have been developed in
the United States and European countries that allow more accurate and economical
pavement design and summarize the results based on a larger amount of information than
the previously used methods. With this in mind, this work first examined, through a
review of standards and literature, some characteristics and trends in flexible pavement
design methods used in different countries around the world. Then, the same approach
was followed for the design methods used in Brazil, including the new MeDiNa method
that filled a gap due to the characteristics of the currently used method. In these
approaches, it was found that the development of a new method based on a mechanisticempirical
methodology is very positive for the Brazilian pavement scenario and brings it
in line with the technologies already used in other countries. The use of a more
sophisticated design methodology, combined with software with a more refined data
calibration, will lead to great developments in the field of paving and fill gaps created by
the use of outdated methods. It was also noted that it will be important to continue to
develop research and scientific production to disseminate the new methodology, as well
as to continue the creation and compilation of parameters on which it is based. |
