Resumo:Type 2 Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder that affects 537 million people worldwide. The disease affects the immunity of patients, making them more susceptible to infections. Commensal inhabitant of the human microbiome and opportunistic behavior, Candida spp. often causes infections in diabetic patients. Despite the institution of drug therapy, the growing number of infectious recurrences has been drawing attention. The present literature review, from this perspective, focused on understanding the phenomena that make diabetic patients more susceptible to infections by Candida spp., as well as infectious recurrence, which has been shown to be related to the influence of hyperglycemia on the components immunocompromise, which lead to immunocompromise, and the increasing resistance phenotype among Candida spp. Prevention strategies were also raised in order to suppress the development of fungal infections.
