In a universe still little explored, the care of afro hair and the world of braids appears as an opportunity for these women to be able to undertake and work in what they identify with. In this context, the present research aims to analyze difficulties encountered by black women to undertake and the main motivations for focusing on specialized salons for afro hair and hairstyles. For that, an exploratory research with a qualitative approach was carried out through semi-structured interviews with black women entrepreneurs in the city of Natal/RN. Among the results obtained with the research, it was possible to identify that the challenges involve the management of the enterprises, the need to perform all the functions of the company alone and the insecurity with the view of third parties about the profession and the business model. However, women are motivated by personal identification with the craft and the aspiration to teach others to know their hair, learn to care for it and love its traits. As mulheres negras vêm conquistando cada vez mais espaço no mundo dos negócios, especialmente no ramo da beleza, visando o resgate das suas raízes e o fortalecimento da identidade negra para outras pessoas. Em um universo ainda pouco explorado, o cuidado com cabelos afros e o mundo das tranças surge como uma oportunidade para que essas mulheres possam empreender e trabalhar naquilo que se identificam. Nesse contexto, a presente pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar dificuldades encontradas por mulheres negras para empreenderem e as principais motivações para focar em salões especializados para cabelos e penteados afros. Para tanto, foi realizada uma pesquisa exploratória com abordagem qualitativa por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas com mulheres negras empreendedoras da cidade de Natal/RN. Dentre os resultados obtidos com a pesquisa, foi possível identificar que os desafios envolvem a gestão dos empreendimentos, a necessidade de exercer todas as funções da empresa sozinhas e a insegurança com a visão de terceiros sobre a profissão e o modelo de negócio.
