Resumo:Accounting went through a long, slow period of development. Its development accompanied the growing demand of merchants along the centuries. Occasionally, it became increasingly important and became the target of scientific studies from the creation of methods and definition of its object. With the advancement and expansion of information technology for the various areas, especially the accounting, the data began to be larger and more skills were being demanded from the accounting professional to deal with the expressive amount of information, as well as the expense of time to process this one. In order to reduce the expense and fatigue caused by repetitive activities, RPA (Robotic Process Automation) appears. RPA is nothing more than softwares whose function is to automate boring and repetitive tasks, and which, sometimes, when performed by humans, can result in errors. In recent years, significant investments have been made by large companies in the automation of activities using RPA. It is no different in the accounting environment and its use has been increasingly common. Because it is a technology that aims to replace some of the activities that were previously performed by humans, in view of the growing investment made by companies and given the innovative character of RPA and its increasing presence in the accounting field, it is important to understand the perception of accounting professionals about this topic. Thus, this research has the general objective of identifying the perception of accountants who work in accounting companies in the city of Natal - RN, on the use of technology called Robotic Process Automation - RPA, in the performance of their activities. For that, a descriptive and exploratory research was carried out, with a qualitative approach and in the field study design model. Data were collected through a form applied via Google Forms. After that, being treated and analyzed, the data showed that accounting professionals in the city of Natal/RN understand what RPA technology is about, showing that most of them agree that this technology plays an important role in their routines and that it significantly improves their professional performance.
