Resumo: | Objective: To review the literature in order to understand why Systemic Arterial Hypertension generates a worse prognosis in patients with COVID 19. Bibliographic Review: The main organ system target of COVID 19 is the respiratory system, however it can affect other systems. The receptor-binding mechanism in the infection of host cells by the novel coronavirus is the binding of the S protein of SARS COV 2 with the human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) protein, which is involved in the process of blood pressure regulation. The prognosis worsens when patients affected by the virus already have some underlying cardiovascular comorbidities, such as Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) and coronary heart disease. Final considerations: Systemic Arterial Hypertension has a great relationship with COVID-19, generating a worse prognosis in the course of the disease in patients with both. |
