Resumo:The present work seeks to promote reflections on questions about music in social and musical-academic contexts, analyzing the consequences that musical prejudice can bring to the higher education of musicians in Brazil, particularly for future music educators. It also points out the problems of lack of diversity and musical acceptance in higher education, aiming to show the advantages of musical inclusion in undergraduate music courses. Therefore, a bibliographic survey was carried out on topics such as: music and society, development of personal identity and musical taste, origins of musical prejudice in Brazil, analysis of the plurality of Brazilian musical genres, their acceptance and challenges over time, beginnings of musical education in the national territory and the reverberation of its embryonic influences in the present times. In addition, an experience report was made containing the author's pedagogical experiences in two schools in the city of Natal/RN, where she had the opportunity to teach in an extension project at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. In conclusion, it was considered that the appreciation of musical diversity in the musical academic environment can bring multiple benefits to students and teachers in different scenarios of society, individually and collectively.
