description The present work sought to understand how women users of a Social Assistance Reference Center experience solo motherhood. The study focused on single-parent families that, in the present work, are associated with the term single mother, given that this woman is the only responsible for parental roles, as well as for the home and maintenance of the family nucleus. It is important to highlight that they are families composed primarily of women, which can be explained from the social gender roles, which are delineated by the patriarchal heritage and the sexual division of labor in intersection with other social markers such as race and class, and that historically imposed the central role of women in household chores and child care. Considering this scenario, the general objective of this study was to understand the experience of being a single mother for women who use a Reference Center for Social Assistance in the city of Natal/Rio Grande do Norte. As specific objectives, we list: a) to analyze the life stories of these women and how the markers of gender, race, class, territory affect their experiences as single mothers; b) investigate the survival strategies produced in women's daily lives; The research was developed together with CRAS Ponta Negra, using semi-structured narrative interviews with four women who spoke about their life stories and experiences as single mothers. The data were analyzed by the perspective of the intersectional feminist perspective and four axes of analysis were listed: Work and income, family, motherhood and community relations. From our research, it was possible to identify that these women take care of their children alone, doing what is possible to be able to reconcile mothering activities with domestic activities and work, which are, in general, informal and precarious. In addition, they are women who depend on government benefits to be able to guarantee the monthly amount sufficient to support their home. The research also confirmed the unequal weight of maternity and paternity, since single mothers point out the father's omission in the financial provision and in the care part. Furthermore, the study highlighted the need to think about public policies that directly benefit the single mother through the generation of income and jobs, in addition to creating spaces for socializing care for children, such as day care centers.

O presente trabalhou buscou compreender como mulheres usuárias de um Centro de Referência em Assistência Social experienciam a maternidade solo. O estudo privilegiou as famílias monoparentais que, no presente trabalho, associam-se ao termo mãe solo, tendo em vista que essa mulher se responsabiliza sozinha pelos papéis parentais, bem como pelo domicílio e pela manutenção do núcleo familiar. Importante destacar que são famílias compostas primordialmente por mulheres, o que pode ser explicado a partir dos papéis sociais de gênero, os quais são delineados pela herança patriarcal e pela divisão sexual do trabalho em intersecção com outros marcadores sociais como raça e classe, e que historicamente impuseram a mulher à centralidade nas tarefas domésticas e de cuidado com os filhos. Considerando esse cenário, o objetivo geral deste estudo foi compreender a experiência de ser mãe solo para mulheres usuárias de um Centro de Referência em Assistência Social na cidade de Natal/Rio Grande do Norte. Como objetivos específicos, elencamos: a) analisar as histórias de vida dessas mulheres e como os marcadores de gênero, raça, classe, território incidem sobre as suas experiências como mães solo; b) investigar as estratégias de sobrevivência produzidas no cotidiano das mulheres. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida junto ao CRAS Ponta Negra, sendo utilizadas entrevistas narrativas semiestruturadas com quatro mulheres as quais discorreram sobre suas histórias de vida e experiências como mães solo. Os dados foram analisados à luz da perspectiva feminista interseccional e foram elencados quatro eixos de análise: Trabalho e renda, família, maternidade e relações comunitárias. A partir da nossa pesquisa foi possível identificarmos que essas mulheres assumem sozinhas os cuidados com os filhos, se desdobrando para conseguir dar conta de conciliar as atividades de maternagem com as atividades domésticas e o trabalho, que são, em geral, informais e precarizados. Além disso, são mulheres que dependem dos benefícios do governo para conseguir garantir a quantia mensal suficiente para o sustento do seu lar. A pesquisa confirmou ainda o peso desigual da maternidade e da paternidade, visto que as mães solo apontam a omissão paterna no provimento financeiro e na parte de cuidados.
