Since, for Sartre, literature has a fundamental role in the construction of society and that the relationship between writer and reader is fundamental for the philosopher, the aim of this work is to understand how the concept of freedom contributes to the author-reader dialectic. Thus, this research investigates the concepts of freedom and literature, and then analyzes the relationship between the author and the reader, identifying the role of freedom in the construction of a literary work. Jean-Paul Sartre é considerado um dos maiores filósofos do século XX. Sua concepção da liberdade e do engajamento tiveram grande influência sobre o pensamento contemporâneo. Uma vez que, para Sartre, a literatura possui um papel fundamental na construção da sociedade e que a relação entre o escritor e o leitor se mostra fundamental para o filósofo, o objetivo deste trabalho é compreender como o conceito de liberdade contribui para a dialética autor-leitor.
