In addition, tourism events are seen as strategic for destinations to circumvent periods of low seasonality. To understand the impacts of the events in a tourist destination, the present research adopted as a case study the Carnaxelita event, an off-season carnival held in Currais Novos, a municipality in the Seridó region of the state of Rio Grande do Norte. For its tradition and for mobilizing thousands of people, Carnaxelita is a recognized leisure event beyond the limits of the state, but the profile and behavior of its public and the economic impacts generated in the city have never been investigated. For this, we adopted the survey, with the application of forms with the public of the event, and analyzed the data with a quantitative approach. The results show that it is possible to offer tourist products formatted to sell and publicize to the public of the event, encouraging a longer stay in the city and expanding the tourist experience of the visitor. O turismo é uma das atividades econômicas mais relevantes do mundo e um de seus principais segmentos é o turismo de eventos, reconhecido pela sua alta capacidade de mobilizar fluxos de pessoas, capital e informação. Além disso, os eventos na área do turismo são vistos como estratégicos para as destinações driblarem os períodos de baixa sazonalidade. Com o objetivo de compreender os impactos dos eventos numa destinação turística, a presente pesquisa adotou como estudo de caso o evento Carnaxelita, um carnaval fora de época realizado em Currais Novos, município da região do Seridó do interior do estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Pela sua tradição e por mobilizar milhares de pessoas, o Carnaxelita é um evento de lazer reconhecido além dos limites do estado, porém o perfil e o comportamento de seu público e os impactos econômicos gerados na cidade até então nunca foram investigados. Para isso adotamos a pesquisa survey, com aplicação de formulários com o público do evento e analisamos os dados com uma abordagem descritiva e quantitativa.
