| Resumo: | The representations of the Atheneu norte-rio-grandense in the Messages of the Governors of Rio Grande do Norte is constituted as a theme of this research whose cut corresponds to the First Republic in Brazil (1889-1930). In these terms, we aim to analyze the representations of the Atheneu norte-riograndense in the Messages of the Governors of Rio Grande do Norte in the First Republic (1889-1930). The research is historical and documental, being the Messages of the Governors of Rio Grande do Norte of this period the documental corpus for the investigation. Theoretically, made use of the understandings of representation according to Roger Chartier and secondary education for Chervel (1992) and Haidar (1972). After the
analysis, we highlight that the representations of the Atheneu norte-rio-grandense in the speeches of the Governors of Rio Grande do Norte in their messages to the Legislative Assembly emphasize the place of the institution as a reference for secondary education in the state, while highlighting the social relevance of this institution and its teachers. |
