description In this research, we seek to think about how a global phenomenon, the people living in the streets, is singularized in the region of Cariri, in the Brazilian state of Ceará. We had the general objetive of analyze the singularities and multiplicities concerning the lifestyle of the people living in the streets, in Cariri, Ceará, and, especifically, to describe the historical elements that are present in the production of the people living in the streets, in this region and how they are maintained in a history of the present; to comprehend the lifestyle of the people living in the streets, of Cariri in the process of producing and being produced by the city; to identify the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the people living in the streets of Cariri. From the methodological point of view, we carried out an ethnographic orientation work, from which we made use of participant and itinerant observation, daily life conversations, and field diary records, which resulted in the construction of two axes of analysis: what is common in the Cariri people living in the streets and elsewhere, as workers, unemployed people, migrants, and drug users; what is unique about this population, typical of the region, which are the figures of the blessed, pilgrims, and remnants of the Casa de Santa Teresa Psychiatric Hospital. Still as a methodological resource, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, we carried out a research with reports, in which we sought to outline the actions taken in relation to the people living in the streets that exist through their relationship with the city, in a double movement of producing it and being produced by it. As for the pandemic, we identified that many actions aimed at the people living in the streets were carried out by civil society; not by public policies. The State was negligent in its actions or in the way it performed them, but we had a solidarity network that produced other ways of taking care of this population.

Nesta pesquisa, interessa-nos pensar como um fenômeno global, a população de rua, se singulariza na região do Cariri Cearense. Tivemos o objetivo geral de analisar as singularidades e multiplicidades dos modos de vida da população em situação de rua do Cariri Cearense; e, como objetivos específicos: Descrever os elementos históricos que estão presentes na produção da população de rua nessa região e como eles se atualizam numa história do presente; Conhecer modos de vida da população de rua do Cariri no processo de produzir e ser produzido pela cidade; Identificar os impactos da pandemia da covid-19 junto à população em situação de rua do Cariri. Do ponto de vista metodológico, realizamos um trabalho de orientação etnográfica, no qual nos utilizamos da observação participante e itinerante, conversas no cotidiano e registros em diário de campo, que resultaram na construção de dois eixos de análise: o que há de comum na população de rua no Cariri e em outros lugares, na condição de trabalhadores(as), desempregados(as), migrantes e usuários de drogas; o que há de singular nessa população, própria da região, que são as figuras dos beatos, romeiros e remanescentes do Hospital Psiquiátrico Casa de Santa Teresa. Ainda como recurso metodológico, diante da pandemia do coronavírus, fizemos uma pesquisa com reportagens, em que buscamos traçar um panorama das ações feitas em relação à população de rua e covid-19 na região do Cariri. Encontramos no Cariri figuras singulares da população de rua que existem por sua relação com a cidade, num duplo movimento de produzi-la e de serem produzidos por ela. Quanto à pandemia, identificamos que muitas ações voltadas para a população de rua foram realizadas pela sociedade civil, e não por políticas públicas.
