Known as the "Pentathlon Principle", Low's method is comprised of five criteria, which were applied to the translation of Caymmi's piece. They are as follows: singability, sense, naturalness, rhythm and rhyme. We comment on the different stages of the translation process, justifying each choice based on the assumptions described in the method. As a result, we have reached a singable version of the work in the English language. The power of Caymmi's compositions, one of the greatest names in Brazilian Popular Music, is something that surely stands the test of time. The translation process described here attests that this strength also resists the limits of language. Este trabalho tem por objetivo aplicar um método tradutório para canções (desenvolvido pelo professor e teórico Peter Low) ao ciclo cancional “História de Pescadores”, de Dorival Caymmi, lançado no disco Caymmi e o Mar (1957). Denominado “Princípio do Pentatlo”, o método de Low é composto por cinco critérios, que foram aplicados à tradução da obra caymmiana. São eles: "cantabilidade", sentido, naturalidade, ritmo e rima. Comentamos as diferentes etapas do processo tradutório, justificando cada escolha com base nos pressupostos descritos no método. Como resultado, chegou-se a uma versão cantável da obra em língua inglesa. A força das composições de Caymmi, um dos maiores nomes da Música Popular Brasileira, é algo que certamente resiste ao teste do tempo.
