Resumo:Generating employment and income has been some of the benefits most publicized by the media and by government discourse about tourism in Brazil. However, the worldwide advent of the pandemic paralyzed for almost two years all activities that had mobility and meeting people at their core, causing losses for the services sector and in this context tourism was drastically affected. It is reflecting on this situation that this work aims to measure the socio-economic impacts resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic crisis on companies and jobs characteristic of tourism at the Polo Serrano in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the year 2020. The methodology adopted was exploratory and quantitative, with data collected on the transparency portal of the federal government and the municipalities that make up the region in focus, on the websites of the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Economy (Novo Caged and RAIS) and DataSebrae, referring to the years 2019 and 2020. The research allows us to conclude that the tourism sector in Polo Serrano, in terms of companies and jobs, was not expressive even before the pandemic, therefore, the Covid-19 crisis had very little impact on unemployment in the sector, with a negative balance only in Apodi, Pau dos Ferros and Caraúbas.
