description With the development of information and communication technologies, libraries gain another meaning and are no longer just collections of books, encompassing different activities. However, it is observed that in the local scenario, the city of Natal/RN has a deficit in relation to this typology, in view of the lack of equipment that supports different media, which meets the various age groups, is accessible and flexible. In this way, the objective is to propose a construction of a Library and Public Media Library for the city of Natal/RN, considering the principles of the IFLA/UNESCO Manifesto, and that meets the requirements of acoustic treatment for the multiple functions that these places exert. For this, the bibliographic research is used as a methodology about the current role played by these buildings in the face of technological advances, the activities and services performed by them, as well as the challenges involving acoustics. In addition, the work made use of three indirect and one direct reference studies, with buildings that resemble the use of the proposed building in the work. Regarding the design process, it uses the concept, design, pre-dimensioning, sectoring, flows and implementation, with the help of information from Google Eart, technical data, site visits, sketches and electronic volumetric models. In view of this, a project of a public library for the municipality was elaborated, considering the specifications of this typology, the surrounding conditions, the pertinent legislation and the characteristics of bioclimatic and acoustic comfort, in order to create a place that serves as a space for leisure, coexistence, information and education center, in addition to favoring the perception of new concepts for public libraries.

Com o desenvolvimento das tecnologias de informação e comunicação, as bibliotecas ganham outro significado e deixam de ser apenas acervos de livros, englobando diferentes atividades. Entretanto, observa-se que no cenário local, a cidade de Natal/RN apresenta um déficit em relação a essa tipologia, tendo em vista a falta de equipamentos que ofereçam suporte para diferentes mídias, que atendam as várias faixas etárias, sejam acessíveis e flexíveis. Dessa forma, objetiva-se propor uma edificação de uma Biblioteca e Midiateca Pública para a cidade de Natal/RN, considerando os princípios do Manifesto da IFLA/UNESCO, e que atenda as exigências de tratamento acústico para as múltiplas funcionalidades que esses locais exercem. Para isso, utiliza-se como metodologia a pesquisa bibliográfica acerca do atual papel desempenhado por essas edificações frente aos avanços tecnológicos, as atividades e serviços exercidos por elas, bem como os desafios que envolvem a acústica. Além disso, o trabalho valeu-se da realização de três estudos de referência indiretos e um direto, com prédios que se assemelham ao uso do edifício proposto no trabalho. No que se refere ao processo de projeto, utiliza-se do conceito, partido, pré-dimensionamento, setorização, fluxos e implantação, com o auxílio de informações do Google Earth, dados técnicos, visita ao terreno, croquis e maquetes volumétricas eletrônicas.
