Resumo:Tourism activity, in general, still generates social and environmental impacts, especially in emerging tourist destinations. In many cases, those who benefit most from tourism are private companies and investors, leaving the local population to bear most of the burden. In this context, the public management of tourist destinations tries to mobilize itself in order to expand the benefits of this activity to the largest possible portion of the population, fulfilling its transversal function of protecting the common good. Thus, this work aimed to analyze the actions of public management of tourism in the coastal municipality of São Miguel do Gostoso, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in 2017, which was a year in which the destination gained great prominence. in the tourism of Rio Grande do Norte, besides being the scene of several events already consolidated. The qualitative research used in loco observation, documental research and an in-depth interview with the local public manager as data collection instruments, noting that there is a concern on the part of the public management to include the residents in the realization of the events held and in the tourist activity.
