Resumo:Commercial workers in Alecrim have always dealt with the neighborhood's problems, especially with the lack of access to complementary services such as cafeterias, restrooms, cultural, health, leisure and educational facilities close to their workplaces, to be used during breaks or after work hours. The Commerce Social Service - SESC - was created in 1946 and today has become a recognized institution for its wide-ranging cultural, sports, leisure, and social assistance offerings. The apex of the services provided by the entity can be found today in the Southeast region where the units have sophisticated architecture and technology, in addition to meeting SESC's five pillars of action. In Natal, the units are specialized, smallsized, and lack technological upgrading; furthermore, they are far from their target audience: the commerce workers. Facing this problem, this work focuses on the promotion centers of complementary services focusing on the commerce workers from the proposition of a socialcultural space in Alecrim, aligned with what has been practiced in the cities of the Southeast region of Brazil. The theme is relevant to the formation of the architect and urban planner by allowing the exercise of vertical design with an extensive program of needs in a complex urban context, allowing the revisiting of concepts of urbanism, morphology and structures; in the social sphere, the relevance of the theme lies in the potential of this work to serve as an inducer of reflections and future proposals for the neighborhood of Alecrim, currently lacking in improvement actions. That said, the general objective of this work is to elaborate a project at the preliminary study level for a regional unit of the SESC in the Alecrim neighborhood, observing the practical guidelines for responsive environments. To this end, it is necessary to develop a vertical building with readable spaces to the user through a simplified spatial configuration and intelligible circulations (1); to promote the favoring of the relationship between the building and the public space, considering the former's performance as an inducer of urban vitality (2); to articulate spaces for the favorable performance of services and activities offered by SESC, considering the comprehensiveness of the institution's action pillars (3)
