Resumo: | Purpose: To verify the factors that are related to the diagnosis of Peri-intraventricular
hemorrhage (PIVH) in preterm newborns, in addition to investigating the feeding
transition time and the form of feeding at hospital discharge of these newborns.
Method: It is a quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study. Data were
collected from 120 medical records of newborns born in a teaching maternity hospital,
covering information on gestational age and birth weight, APGAR at the first and fifth
minutes, total time of food transition, in addition to the method of feeding at hospital
discharge. The infants were stratified into two groups, one consisting of babies with
PIVH and the other consisting of neonates without the pathology. For statistical
analysis, Pearson's Chi-Square, T-Test, Fisher's Exact, Mann-Whitney U-Test and
Spearman's Correlation were used, considering statistical significance p<0.005.
Results: It was found that the group with PIVH had a higher average number of days
of food transition than the group without intracranial hemorrhage. The Mann-Whitney
test showed that the presence of the pathology has an effect on the total time of
transition from food to the oral route. Furthermore, it was possible to observe that
exclusive breastfeeding was the most frequent method at hospital discharge in both
groups. Conclusion: The presence or absence of PIVH has an influence on the time of
food transition in preterm infants. Weight, gestational age and APGAR at the fifth
minute were related to the diagnosis of PIVH. In addition, exclusive breastfeeding was
the predominant feeding method in both groups. |
