Resumo:At the end of 2019, the world was hit with the emergence of a new disease, Covid-19 - caused by the new coronavirus. The first cases were recorded in Wuhan, a Chinese province, where hospitalized patients reported symptoms of acute respiratory distress. A few days after the first recorded appearance of Covid-19, new cases were observed in 25 different provinces across China. According to PAHO, it took only 93 days, from the date on which the WHO was notified by China about the emergence of the new coronavirus, for the world to reach the first million confirmed cases. Those infected with SARS-CoV-2 can be asymptomatic or with symptoms that appear between 2 and 14 days after infection, the most common are: fever, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion or runny nose, loss of taste and / or smell. A huge factor that contributed to Covid-19 becoming a serious global health problem is its high potential for transmission, occurring through respiratory droplets and contaminated objects or surfaces. The present study aims to trace the sociodemographic profile of patients hospitalized for the coronavirus in Brazil in 2021. For this purpose, data made available by Datasus in the SIVEP-Gripe database, which contains data on Acute Respiratory Syndromes, were used. Among the results, it was observed that there is a simple predominance of male patients among hospitalized individuals, and that the white population has a greater participation in the condition of hospitalized. Finally, it is expected to provide greater support to understand the profile of the population hospitalized by Covid-19 in Brazil.
