For the proposed objective, the countries of South America were selected, where the rise and the crisis of neoliberalism were significant, such as: in Brazil, Argentina, in Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile and Venezuela. From these specific cases of adoption of neoliberal ideology in South America and based on a vast bibliographic consultation and in several databases, periodicals and websites, it was possible to deepen the analysis of a proposal registering the overcoming of neoliberalism in the region and the attempt to replace it with neo-developmentalism, with the exception of Peru and Colombia that remained under the aegis of neoliberal conceptions. As can be seen, the new development still need to archive several advances in industrialization, in the strength of the internal market and for the search for the domain and development of new technologies so it won’t remain on the sidelines of the current domain of forces. Furthermore, the model implemented in the region from the end of the 1990s and beginning of the decade has suffred setbacks but the new steps that were taken continue to be a reference for restarting, in a higher stage of development, the South America economies. Among these advances, an important reduction in poverty and an increase in the social inclusion, a paradigm shift in the countries of the continent on the international scene, greater integration, as well as the end of the privatization processes of strategic companies, maintained as points of their transformation.

Esse trabalho tem como principal objetivo a realização de uma análise histórica e empírica sobre a ascensão e crise do neoliberalismo na América do Sul, bem como a tentativa de sua superação a partir de intervenções que se convencionou chamar de experiências neodesenvolvimentistas na região. Para concretização do objetivo proposto, foram selecionados e analisados os casos específicos de alguns países da América do Sul, onde a ascensão e crise do ideário neoliberal se manifestaram com significativa ênfase, tais como: no Brasil, na Argentina, na Colômbia, no Peru, no Equador, na Bolívia, no Chile e na Venezuela. A partir desses casos específicos de adoção do ideário neoliberal na América do Sul e com base em uma vasta consulta bibliográfica e em bancos de dados, periódicos e diversos sites, foi possível aprofundar a análise proposta registrando os limites de superação do neoliberalismo na região a partir da tentativa de substituí-lo pelo neodesenvolvimentismo, à exceção de Peru e da Colômbia que permaneceram sob a égide das concepções neoliberais. Como conclusões pôde-se observar que o novo desenvolvimentismo segue tendo de vencer vários entraves para afirmar plenamente seu caminho pela reindustrialização, pelo fortalecimento do mercado interno e pela busca de domínio de novas tecnologias para não ficar à margem do atual avanço das forças produtivas. Ademais, apesar do modelo novo-desenvolvimentista implementado na região, a partir do fim da década de noventa e início da década de 2000, ter sofrido contratempos importantes, os passos que foram conquistados seguem sendo um referencial para a retomada, em um estágio superior de desenvolvimento, das economias da América do Sul.
