Resumo:This article is a reflection about the communication concept from the renowned brazilian author and educator Paulo Freire, presented as an indispensable factor on the knowledge act and co-participation on the thinking act, whose conceptualization snippets are shared in several of his works, especially in the book “Extensão ou comunicação?” (1968). In this regard, Freire’s reflective critique about the authoritarian systems, manipulation practices and communication tranferences is approached. Covering a very important discussion for the journalistic formation and the social commitment practice, verified by the National Curricular Guidelines for the Journalism Course and developed methodologically through documentary bibliographic research, such as books, theses and specialized dissertations, pointing the pedagogical educator’s praxis as a reaction to the hegemonic model based in the mechanical notion of communication as transmission of information from active sources to passive receivers. Finally, associations of the Freirean communication are observed at the journalistic practice through the books “ Jornalismo Político” (2005) from Franklin Martins and “Os segredos das redações” (2008) from Leandro Fortes and in the information analysis obtained through qualitative in-dept interviews with Bruno Vital, Paulo Martin and Renata Moura, journalists from the Rio Grande do Norte, presented as profiles in different daily situations of the labour, where was possible to verify that the way we communicate the information makes the whole difference.
