Resumo:Beyond term, accessibility is a right. It presents itself as a mean to ensure access to leisure, education, work and health. It’s a right of all brazilian citizens and a guarantee of safe and autonomous locomotion for people with disabilities and reduced mobility in all urban spaces. For this reason, it has been widely discussed at local and global levels. Sidewalks play a fundamental role in safeguarding this right, as they enable the most universal form of transport: walking. Therefore, the present work aims to analyze the situation of accessibility of the sidewalks on Avenue Engenheiro Roberto Freire, which give access to important points that guarantee the convergence to various services in the city of Natal/RN. Seventeen subsections were individually analyzed, divided along a kilometer and a half of the avenue. Subsequently, the data collected was analyzed according to the complementary laws that deals with accessibility standards. The results found indicate conditions that make it impossible for people with disabilities and reduced mobility to move in several stretches, in addition to showing the carelessness of the enterprises in the studied area and the public authorities in guaranteeing safe locomotion in these areas, showing, thus, the importance of bringing to light the knowledge and the demand for a fundamental enforcement of the constitution: the right to come and go.
