Resumo:This work has as its theme the identity dynamics of peripheral youth stem from their relations with contemporary artistic-cultural movements. For this, it takes as its object of study the perspective of a young man from the hip-hop scene in Natal, to understand the role of music in the process of building his sociopolitical and cultural identity. The research has a qualitative approach, being configured as a case study with the adoption of two data collection techniques: documental survey and semi-structured interviews. The results show a strong interrelation between the collaborator's engagement with hip-hop and his sociopolitical and cultural background, indicating an inseparability between musical education within this movement and other aspects of the collaborator's general education. It is expected that this study will contribute to the production of knowledge about hip-hop in the field of music, as well as to institutional policies that contemplate this movement in the initial formation of music teachers.
