When it comes to the translation of idiomatic expressions in the audiovisual medium, the translation process can present even more particular and, sometimes, limiting characteristics. Therefore, this research, which is qualitative, bibliographical and exploratory, aims to investigate the strategies used to translate the idioms of the first season of the series Workin' Moms. The research question is: What were the most used strategies in the translation of the idioms present in the first season of the series Workin' Moms? To answer this question, we developed the following objectives: (i) to identify the idiomatic expressions of the first season of the series; (ii) classify and quantify them in terms of the translation strategies used; and (iii) evaluate the data based on the frequency of use of translation strategies. To this end, we resort to some theorists such as Albir (2001), Bassnett (2002), Sapir (1949) and Rabassa (1989) to address the issue of translation and culture, Xatara (1998a, 1998b) and Baker (2018) to discuss idioms and translation strategies, and Díaz-Cintas and Remael (2014) to refer to audiovisual translation. The results show that the strategies used were paraphrase; transcription; omission; the use of an idiom of similar meaning and form; of similar meaning and dissimilar form; of an expression (idiomatic or common) of dissimilar meaning and use of an idiomatic expression of the fuzzy type, and that in most translations, in order to maintain a given aspect of the idiom, another was lost or altered.

Multifacetada e complexa, a tradução é uma prática que exige grande destreza com as palavras e conhecimento linguístico e cultural por parte do tradutor. Em se tratando da tradução de expressões idiomáticas no meio audiovisual, o processo tradutório pode apresentar características ainda mais particulares e, por vezes, limitantes. Diante disso, esta pesquisa, que é de natureza qualitativa, bibliográfica e exploratória, tem como propósito investigar as estratégias utilizadas para traduzir as expressões idiomáticas da primeira temporada da série Workin’ Moms. A pergunta de pesquisa é: Quais foram as estratégias mais utilizadas na tradução dos idiomatismos presentes na primeira temporada da série Workin’ Moms? Para responder essa pergunta, elaboramos os seguintes objetivos: (i) identificar as expressões idiomáticas da primeira temporada da série; (ii) classificá-las e quantificá-las quanto às estratégias tradutórias empregadas; e (iii) avaliar os dados baseando-se na frequência de uso das estratégias tradutórias. Para tanto, recorremos a alguns teóricos como Albir (2001), Bassnett (2002), Sapir (1949) e Rabassa (1989) para abordar a questão da tradução e cultura, Xatara (1998a, 1998b) e Baker (2018) para discutir expressões idiomáticas e estratégias de tradução, e Díaz-Cintas e Remael (2014) para se referir à tradução audiovisual.
