Resumo:Acetylsalicylic acid is the best-known and best-selling drug in the world and its use has been contested, even when prescribed, due to the appearance of bleeding accidents. This study sought information in the literature that demonstrated the relationship between hemorrhagic accidents and the use of AAS. A survey of research data was carried out in order to compare their results in relation to the benefits of the use of ASA in the prevention of cardiovascular events and the hemorrhagic risks inherent to its use. It was demonstrated that in primary prevention of cardiovascular events in patients using ASA in low doses there were benefits, but the hemorrhagic risk cannot be neglected. In secondary prevention, the benefits outweigh the risks of bleeding in high-risk patients. The benefits of ASA when used in the prophylaxis of serious cardiovascular events in patients who do not have a preexisting disease, the hemorrhagic risk is superior to the desired benefits. There is no lack of data proving that ASA carries bleeding risks to patients even when prescribed in therapies. On the other hand, this study also points to the effective need for pharmaceutical care around self-medication and prescription drugs, making the use of AAS safer.
